Looking forward beyond leather: Vesta Corporation has proudly presented its first Sustainability Report<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The Tuscan tannery has presented to its stakeholders a document outlining its current commitment and future objectives, with a view to innovating, safeguarding and fostering high-end leather material processing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

San Miniato (Pisa)<\/em> \u2013 Ever since it was established in 1966 in Ponte a Egola, the Tuscan hub for the production of leather for vegetable tanned soles, Vesta Corporation has always been striving towards excellence, striking a balance between restyling tradition and developing its own craftsmanship-oriented identity. .Using chrome-based tanning and metal-free tanning, Vesta has thus succeeded in establishing itself as supplier and partner of the most important haute couture and sportswear brands<\/strong>, from lightweight calf and half-calf leather, to heavy leathers made with hind and rump hide, for leatherware and shoes.<\/p>\n\n

Vesta has been working with those able to shape leather and turn it into an icon, able to give soul to materials, to make them live forever. For Vesta this entails the need to guarantee its customers a top-of-the-range, fully reliable product<\/strong>, in terms of appearance, how it feels to the touch, performance and durability.<\/p>\n\n

These high standards are maintained from the beginning of the manufacturing process, during all of its processing phases and after the products are completed, through physical tests conducted within the company premises and chemical tests run by an accredited laboratory, validated through an Electronic Certificate of Quality<\/strong> (CEQ). The benchmarks set by the company, however, do not only impose material, tangible or visible constraints. They also imply an ethical commitment<\/strong> which means the utmost compliance with environmental standards and safeguarding its employees in the production process. One of the steps completed by the company is drafting the 2022 Sustainability Report<\/strong>, not an obligation but a choice, made by an enterprise that has used its own investments and resources to develop an increasingly sustainable production and management model.<\/p>\n\n

To draft this Report, reference was made to the \u201cGlobal Reporting Initiative Sustainability Reporting Standards\u201d established by the Global Reporting Initiative<\/strong> (GRI). The information in the balance sheet refers to the year 2022 (from 1 January to 31December 2022). Wherever possible, data for the previous year are included, to allow for a comparison of data over time and to assess the trend of Vesta activities. Sustainability is an objective-driven process. This means that comparing data allows for concretely measuring the company\u2019s progress, as it pursues this accounting process year after year.<\/p>\n\n

The improvement actions already implemented by Vesta involve corporate responsibility from an environmental<\/strong>, social<\/strong> and governance<\/strong> perspective. An example are the improved heating and processing plants (which entails the construction of a new tumbling department based on 4.0 technology). This guarantees significant energy, water and economic savings<\/strong>. Along with numerous corporate certifications, the company has passed the Raw Material Traceability test with a score of EXCELLENT<\/strong>, as well as the Carbon and Water footprint analysis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

As confirmation of its commitment to improving corporate performance levels, Vesta has been upgraded from BRONZE (2020) to GOLD in 2023<\/strong>, as assessed by the Leather Working Group<\/strong> (which measures leather manufacturers\u2019 environmental performance for ecological production and for a systemic management of quality, environmental, safety and ethical factors). In this regard, it is worth mentioning the code of ethics<\/strong> approved by Vesta, which drives the daily operations of the company and of its employees, tracing the route of its future objectives.<\/p>\n\n

Becoming energy-independent<\/strong> is a major step in the pipeline, involving the installation of a photovoltaic plant. This is complemented by the implementation of a project aimed at totally compensating its CO2<\/sub><\/strong> emissions for the year subject to accounting and certification. This neutrality will be achieved through the acquisition of credits deriving from projects certified by the United Nations. For example, with the construction of an important hydro-electric plant to which Vesta is contributing. With regard to production, corporate research is currently focused on developing solutions to reduce water and energy use. It is also implementing circular trends by adopting an increasing number of bio-based products<\/strong>, to guarantee the most sustainable end-of-life and waste management for its products. The 40 employees of Vesta and the territory in which it operates are and shall become increasingly important in the company\u2019s vision, which is committed to constantly enhancing their wellbeing and their development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n
